Tony Gonczarow's Students at Southmont High School Completing Day 1 of Gel Electrophoresis Lab
Today the Dual Credit Biology I students have completed day 1 of their Gel Electrophoresis Lab. The students used restriction enzymes to cut two suspect's DNA into identifiable segments. On Thursday the students will run and stain gels and compare the suspects fragments to DNA found at the crime scene. Attached are photos of the students completing the lab. They exhibited great teamwork at executing the task at hand.

These four students are the first students from Leroy Striker’s Project EXCEL Criminal Justice program at Heartland Career Center to successfully graduate from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) and become full-time, paid police officers. All four graduated during the past twelve months.
The Criminal Justice program at Heartland Career Center has been successfully sending students to colleges, military and professional careers since 2010; however, these are the first to become police officers in Indiana.

Nick and Hunter both graduated from VU with AS in Conservation Law Enforcement; Nick transferred to Ball State University to complete his BS in Criminal Justice/Criminology.
Nick Striker – Graduated from ILEA in June 2016 (Class #208). Police Officer with Carmel Police Department.
Hunter Law – Graduated from ILEA in October 2016 (Class #209). Conservation Officer with Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Assigned Marshall County.
Parker Stouffer – Graduated from ILEA in February 2017 (Class #210). Police Officer with North Manchester Police Department.
Devin Bechtold – Graduated from ILEA in February 2017 (Class #210). Police Officer with North Manchester Police Department.
