Former volleyball player continues career at IU Northwest

VINCENNES, Ind. – Former Vincennes University volleyball player Erica Kik will play this season for Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Indiana.

Kik played for the Trailblazers during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, and led the team in blocks both years.

She collected 80 blocks (1.01 per set) as a sophomore and added 152 kills. She contributed 82 blocks (.82 per set) and 135 kills in 2016. She hit over 100 points better from 2016 (.216%) to 2017 (.328%) in her hitting percentage.

Kik is returning to volleyball and school after a break. She is a graphic arts major.

“She’s playing for a program that had a great year,” VU Volleyball Coach Gary Sien said. “(Indiana University Northwest Coach Brian Erminger) is her club coach too. It’s assuring to us knowing she is going to a program where she is familiar with the coaching staff. She’ll be a lot closer to home.”

Indiana University Northwest won a school-record 27 matches and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last season for the first time in program history.

“We are excited to have Erica a part of our program here at Indiana University Northwest,” Erminger said. “I know she will be bringing a heavy hit as well as a solid block at the net. I look forward to the upcoming season and to see this team excel, once again, on the court.”

Play4Kay

The Vincennes University Athletic Department hosts Play4Kay and raises donations for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund annually. VU Women’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director Harry Meeks has a special connection to the late Yow, who was the longtime coach at North Carolina State. He had the pleasure of meeting her while he was an assistant coach at Western Carolina University. This left a lasting impression on him and made this cause important to him and the Trailblazers.
