Two options leading to an Associate of Science in Nursing
The ASN Program provides students with the knowledge base needed to become a registered nurse. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensing Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN) to obtain licensure as a registered nurse.
Students learn though lecture, laboratory experience, including our simulation laboratory, and hands on clinical experience. Laboratory and clinical experience provide students with the experience and knowledge needed to work with a diverse patient population in a variety of settings.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that registered nursing is a top 10 occupation with large job growth projections. Registered nurses assess, plan, and provided direct patient care to promote health, prevent and treat illness, disease, and injury, and help educate clients and families regarding care and treatment. Registered nurses have a variety of career options including management and leadership roles, specialty fields such as critical care, labor and delivery, surgical care, emergency services, as well as a variety of other specialties.
There are two options available for pursing an Associate of Science in Nursing Degree at Vincennes University.
The traditional ASN Program is for qualified students that have or will be graduating from high school, transfer students, and current VU students. All applicants must meet minimum academic requirements in order to be considered for admission to the program. Admission is competitive and applicants with higher academic qualifications may be offered positions first.
The ASN Program begins each fall. Applications are accepted beginning October 1each year for the following Fall semester.

The ASN Completion Concentration for Licensed Practical Nurses provides a route for current LPNs who wish to obtain their ASN and become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN to become a registered nurse. This option begins annually in the Spring semester. In order to apply to the ASN Completion Option, applicants must have the following pre-admission requirements completed:
Current LPN Licensure
Minimum GPA of 2.7 in nursing related/required courses
Successful completion of the following courses with a grade of “C” or better:
- English Composition I
- Anatomy and Physiology I (lecture and lab)
- Completion of Elementary Chemistry (CHEM 100/100L at VU or an equivalent course) –or- completion of two semesters of high school chemistry with a C or better that was completed within six years of admission to the program
- Math: In addition to the course above, applicants must be eligible to enroll in College Algebra (Math 102) or higher. In order to meet this requirement, the applicant must complete one of the following: Math 016 Algebra II or Math 101 Intermediate Algebra with a grade of C or better -or- complete the University Accuplacer with a minimum score of 74-or- complete College Algebra (Math 102) or higher with a grade of C or better -or- have appropriate transfer credits for College Algebra. Please note that applicants seeking credit for math must have completed the course within the last seven years.

All applicants must complete a VU application and apply to the Nursing Program. Compliance with all criteria does not guarantee selection for admission to the program.
On the Vincennes Campus:
The application process is a multi step process. Applicants must first submit an application via the VU Admissions Office. Upon admission to the University, applicants will receive information about applying to the College of Health Sciences & Human Performance (Nursing). The application instruction must be followed when submitting the application. The peak time for application review is December, March, and May, although applications are accepted throughout the semester beginning October 1 of the year prior to the sought Fall admission.
On the Jasper Campus:
Applicants must be admitted to the Vincennes University Jasper Campus prior to submitting a nursing application. Nursing applications may be picked up at the Office of Nursing, located in the Classroom Building.
