Notre Dame football legend who inspired Rudy movie shares powerful messages with VU students

The University of Notre Dame and Rudy Ruettiger, whose true life story was immortalized in one of the best sports movies of all time, “Rudy”, are synonymous with each other. Before Ruettiger walked on to the Notre Dame football team and became a famous sports hero and motivational speaker, he studied at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Indiana. At the time, Holy Cross was a two-year school. His Holly Cross education launched him on a trajectory that forever changed his life. Ruettiger was the featured speaker of Vincennes University Student Activities’ Welcome Week. Ruettiger kept VU students, faculty, and staff on the edge of their seats at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Kimmell family, VU honor former Vincennes mayor with scholarship and historical marker

Kimmell Park is a place many people know and have visited as a go-to spot for fishing, picnicking, walking, playing, and other recreational fun within a stone’s throw of Vincennes University. The park is named for Joseph W. Kimmell, the former mayor of Vincennes. Vincennes University and the family of the historic park’s namesake are paying homage to the outstanding luminary in a remarkable fashion. A special historical marker is being erected this week near the park's limestone shelter house in recognition of Joseph Kimmell and his contributions toward the construction of the popular park that attracts families from southwest Indiana and neighboring Illinois. In coordination with the installation, the Kimmell family has made an extraordinary announcement. The family has established an endowed scholarship in honor of their grandfather, who served as Vincennes mayor from 1929-1938.

My experience has been incredible. I have a good teacher. She is a very kind, understanding, and friendly person. My colleagues are very generous. I have met more students who have helped me practice my English.

Jabari Hunter

VU opened up possibilities for things I didn't even know about when I first started playing the piano. Joining the Blues Ensemble and Christian Campus Fellowship at VU allowed me to show the world who I am.

Marley Elder

I had a choice to go straight into the workforce or transfer to another school, but I stayed because I like the teachers. I feel like I’m learning a lot compared to other schools. The community is great. I’ve made lots of friends here. It’s just a nice, quiet, friendly community.

Fatima Ayala

I chose Vincennes University because I grew up in the town, and I wanted to stay close to home, plus it was affordable, which is the best.

My Vũ

Studying at VU has helped me prepare and cultivate my confidence, essential skills, and knowledge, and now I am ready for my new journey at Arizona State University this coming fall.
